One More Thing to Be Thankful For Today!!!

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for…

Yes! The new ADITLOU site is now officially open for your reading pleasure!

This was truly one of our best Days ever! And we just have to say thank you thank you thank you to all of our participants and supporters!

Not only were the numbers great (more on that soon), but the quality of the writing was downright incredible! Though we all wrote about the same date, our participants wrote in a variety of genres and styles—from haiku and poetry to essays and letters and journals—about a variety of days.  In the end, we were simply blown away by the creativity and unique innovations that came from even our youngest writers!

To say the least, our newest celebration of daily life in Ukraine was a huge success! We had a whopping 134 total submissions with 120 of them fitting the criteria—true story about being in Ukraine on November 1st—to make it onto our map (see the beautiful map above if you haven’t already). Lviv region topped all others with 35 total submissions, followed by Rivne with 28, and Zaporizhzhya with 17 (Rivne led all individual sites with 24 total submissions).

We can really get a wide angle snapshot of the country by reading through the submissions which came from as far as west as Sambir in Lviv region and stretched east all the way to Amvrosiivka in Donets’k region. If you want to, you can read about life in the north up in Sarny (Rivne region) or all the way down in Sevastopol’ in Crimea. But wherever you travel in your reading, we know that you’ll enjoy it!

Thank you once more! See you again one day soon!!!

A Bit o’ Nitty Gritty: Some more information about the site…

If you’ve been a part of ADITLOU before, as either a reader or a writer, you’ll likely have no trouble finding your way around the new site—you may even notice that very little has changed in terms of operation or navigation (what’s the use of fixing something that’s already working well, right?)

If you’re new around here, then it still shouldn’t be too difficult to get where you want to go. If you’d like to read a specific entry, click “Read Your Heart Out!” in the left sidebar and follow your way through the region and site all the way to the writer you’re looking for.

We have also provided a handy map at the bottom of this post, on which we have pinpointed the sites around Ukraine where our writers came from; simply click on any blue “thumbtack” to see the name of the site as well as links to all of the writers who sent in submissions from there. The map also makes it easy to browse and read at random.

In addition to all of the older features, we tried something a little new this year, as well. The pieces that didn’t make it onto the map for one reason or another are still available for your perusal! If you click on “Read Your Heart Out” and look at the bottom two categories, you will find the pieces that just didn’t quite fit: “Detached Days” were pieces without homes on the map—mostly because the writers forgot to send in a location with their work; “Inspired by ADITLOU…” is an eclectic collection of writing that found its focus in issues and ideas outside of our single day—there are some great poems and essays about life in Ukraine there if you’d like to take a look! On a side not, if you are the author of one of these pieces—especially the ones without locations—and you have questions or more information for us, please leave us a comment here or email us at adayinthelifeofukraine@gmail.com

You don’t have to have a problem to email us, though! We always want to hear from you (especially if you have a lot of good things to say)!

Leave us questions, comments, or concerns and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can…

Thank you and happy reading!
